  1. Soap is a mixture of the sodium salts of 
  2. various fatty acids: palmitic, stearic, and 
  3. oleic acid. It is made by the action of 
  4. sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) or potassium 
  5. hydroxide (caustic potash) on fats of animal 
  6. or vegetable origin. Soap makes grease and 
  7. dirt disperse in water in a similar manner to 
  8. a detergent.
